Women s Mobile Health Unit Project Inaugurated in Egypt

The "Women's Mobile Health Unit Project," a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Population and that of Communications and Information Technology, was announced last week. The national project encompasses a hi-tech communications network, mobile units equipped with advanced medical equipment, fixed units and a main center in Kasr Al-Aini hospital.

The mobile and fixed units will be linked to the main center via satellites and high-speed lines. The network will transmit medical scans to specialized doctors for their review, who will send back the reports to the mobile units to be received by the female patients.

The five-year project will offer Egyptian women aged over 45 years mammography scans for the early discovery of breast cancer as well as conducting complementary blood pressure and blood sugar measurements.

Patient Safety International Expands Into South African Market With AIMS Incident Management Software Distribution Deal

Patient Safety International (PSI), a provider of incident management, healthcare quality and patient safety improvement software tools today announced a distribution deal with the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA).

With 1 in 10 patients suffering an adverse event, healthcare systems urgently need solutions to poor quality and compromised patient safety. An interactive evidence-based management tool, AIMS provides the specific and detailed information required.

Under the deal, COHSASA will distribute and support PSI’s AIMS software across southern Africa. According to Professor Stuart Whittaker, CEO of COHSASA, “integration of AIMS into the COHSASA Facilitated Accreditation Programme (FAP) provides a powerful tool for facilities to improve patient safety and monitor progress as they move towards compliance with internationally accredited standards.”

Cisco Plans to Turn India into Global Hub, Triple Workforce

The Banglore location, which will eventually also serve Cisco customers in developed markets like North America and Europe, will accommodate staff from its research and development, information-technology and customer support teams.

From 3,000 current employees, the California-based Cisco will increase its workforce in India to 10,000 by 2010, and expects to generate 20 percent of its "future leadership" from the country, said Chambers, who is also chairman.
